TROY, N.Y. — Hudson Valley Community College freshman Myanna Faraj had a much different offseason regimen than most. This past summer, much of her training and play didn’t even happen on U.S. soil.

Faraj, 18, is of Lebanese descent, and annually visits her father’s side of the family, in their home country, each summer. This summer, the nature of her visit was much different. It was a business trip, as she played on the U18 Lebanese women’s national team, in FIBA’s (International Basketball Federation) 2024 Asia Cup.

“It all started when I was playing with my high school team. They scouted me, found out that I’m Lebanese, and they liked the way I played,” Faraj, a Tamarac High School graduate said in a recent interview. “So they flew me over to try out and I made the team.”

“When I got over there, (family) was all still coming to support me. It’s like my second home,” she added.
